They include the title track and a rehearsal and final take of "Ugly Beauty" dating back to the 1968 Straight, No Chaser recordings. The studio sessions are among Monk's last with this quartet. The flourishes take on more portents and the chord progressions that normally sound difficult sound impossible here. It is beautiful in its accidental regency. "Pannonica" is of particular note, as this may be the earliest known recording. They were donated to the project by none other than the Baroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter, Monk's patron and friend since 1954. Two of the disc's most intriguing tracks - "Pannonica" and "Lulu's Back in Town" - are Monk solos dating back from the late summer of 1956. Although much of the footage incorporates this era, the soundtrack - both in the film as well as on this disc - offers a wide spectrum of previously unissued performances. Although the 1988 documentary covers Monk's entire life, a healthy portion of the film centers on some amazing footage circa late 1967 and early 1968 from Michael Blackwood and sibling Christian Blackwood, who produced a documentary that aired only once on West German television. This disc pulls double duty as both a motion picture soundtrack as well as a great primer on the multi-faceted Thelonious Monk.

The 1929 article on the right is some boilerplate I’ve used. One of the most confusing areas has been the often errant information often given on Martin’s “purchase” of The Indiana Band Instrument Company. I enjoy history and am trying to straighten what I can of Martin’s. This is a lot of interesting info about the Martin company and I hope you enjoy reading it: My grandfather worked at Martin from 1921 to 1948, my Uncle Fritz worked there from 1935 to the RMC days, and my Mom and three other uncles worked at MBI Martin Band Instruments at one time or another. I’m including the full text of each e-mail. I don’t generally write anything about instrument companies’ history - I’m more interested in horns - nor do I write much about copmanies’ second lines, but I think Mr. I then proceeded to forget about his e-mails until he sent me another one. A few weeks ago, I got a few e-mails from Chris Holtz, a grandson of Fred Holtz, head of Martin Band thru the 30’s and 40’s. Mr Matthews said the court would hear from Liverpool fans who were on the terrace on April 15 1989, including off-duty police officer Stephen Allen. The jury in the trial of Hillsborough match commander David Duckenfield has heard of the "scene of horror" in the pens where the fatal crush happened.Ĭontinuing to open the case at Preston Crown Court on Thursday, Richard Matthews QC, prosecuting, said calculations showed the density at the front of pen three of the Leppings Lane end at 3.03pm, three minutes after the 1989 FA Cup semi-final kicked off, was as high as 10 people per square metre.ĭuckenfield, 74, who denies the gross negligence manslaughter of 95 Liverpool fans, and former Sheffield Wednesday club secretary Graham Mackrell, 69, who denies breaching a condition of the safety certificate and a health and safety offence, sat alongside their legal teams in the well of the court for the third day of the trial. |
